A few NJ/NY transit photos (1970-71)

The first five photos are of the Newark (NJ) City Subway, taken 2/19/71.
These vintage PCC cars would still be in use for another decade.
The first photo was taken at the Franklin Ave station & loop.

Southbound car picking up speed, just out of Franklin Ave. station.

Car 20, turning on the Franklin Avenue loop.

Looking south, car 14 taken from Heller Parkway station overpass,
facing "SLOW" sign hanging from the wires.

Ex Twin Cities PCC 23 waits at Franklin Ave. station,
which was the end of the line at that time.

The two following photos were taken on May 30, 1970
from the back window of my grandmother's apartment at 61-34 Madison St.,
4th floor, in Ridgewood, Queens, and show the Fresh Pond Road
el station of the NYC Transit "M" line, looking over the roof of the
adjacent bus garage.

These next 3 photos were taken along the Newark PATH line on 2/19/71.
The first was taken about 1/4 mile south of Journal Square.

Here's an old yellow wooden work car at Journal Square station,
during track work. Construction of a new station complex is already under way.

PATH train station stop at Harrison, NJ, just across the bridge from Newark.
Center trackage with catenary is the northeast corridor mainline into NYC Penn Station.
