South Shore Line - January 9, 2010
Part II - Along the line from Kensington to Michigan City

At the Metra Electric/South Shore split, the track switch is set to turn
our train to the east onto the South Shore Line.

Heading across the ex-IC trackage at the junction south of Kensington.

Once across, we are down to one track briefly before resuming double-track.

We pass westbound South Shore line train #506 just east of Kensington...

Double track over a bridge...

...and we arrive at Hegewisch.

Station tracks have a "bypass" if not a station stop.

Here's a westbound NS freight on parallel tracks, partially obscured by a catenary pole the last second.

Arriving at the next station, Hammond, Indiana.

After Gary, the line is mostly single tracked, except for some non-electrified
double-track to accomodate freight service.
Here's the Ogden Dunes station, we began to encounter heavy lake-effect snow.

The snow became heavier as we headed east, remember these are crops taken through two windows.

Here we pass an oncoming (westbound) South Shore freight on a section
of non-electrified parallel track, near Dune Park.

Two views of the classic Beverly Shores station...

...and we find ourselves soon on the street in the west end of Michigan City.
