Erie-Lackawanna NJ B&W set (1969-1971)
June, 1969 - Hawthorne, NJ - Erie Lackawanna passenger run,
headed by an Alco RS-3, speeds over the Passaic River bridge,
crossing from Paterson, NJ into Hawthorne, NJ on the Main Line.
Two photos of the E-L Main Line on the Paterson side of the bridge,
taken June, 1969, the track gates in the background of the
second photo are at 5th Avenue, Paterson, NJ.
E-L passenger run eastbound from Glen Rock to Hawthorne, NJ, June, 1969,
led by RS-2 #913, taken from the Lincoln Avenue overpass.
E-L train leaving Hawthorne, NJ station (eastbound), May, 1969.
E-L train 1174 arriving at the Suffern, NY station from the yard,
ready for the 4:52PM run to Hoboken (August, 1969). Note the center
vintage coach was an ex-Lackawanna, a bit taller than the Erie coaches.
E-L train 1174 on 9/15/69 (5:01PM), departing the Allendale, NJ station eastbound.
Westbound train 1167 at Ramsey, NJ station (Sept., 1969), led by
Alco RS-2 #913, dropping off commuters at 5:43PM.
E-L EMD E8 at Ho-Ho-Kus, NJ on 5/2/70, pulling the last Saturday Hoboken-bound run,
train 1756. Note that #822 also pulled the last #5 ("Lake Cities")
Hoboken-Chicago run in Jan., 1970, according to my notes.
The silver ex-Santa-Fe coaches were now being used on many runs.
Westbound E-L train 1157 arriving in Suffern, NY at 10:09AM, July 22,1970.
Alco RS-3 #927 is followed by 4 ex-Santa Fe silver coaches, which were
replacing many of the older aging ex-Erie coaches by this time.
E-L engines 3306 & 3315 (GE U33C type) head a fast freight out of the
Suffern, NY yard just after 10AM on July 22, 1970. (looking north)
