Lehigh Gorge Scenic Railway, November 20, 2010 - Part I

This tourist line operates out of Jim Thorpe, PA, mostly on weekends, and offers a 16 mile
round trip up the Lehigh River gorge on old CNJ & LV trackage.

SD-50 #426 backs up to couple to our passenger train. The ex-CNJ Jim Thorpe station tower stands as a backdrop.

Around the old station, a few shots of Jim Thorpe (at one time called Mauch Chunk).

At the end of the train is the blue "open air car" and the caboose.

Pulling out of the station, we quickly pass a few extra sidelined passenger cars...

...an old turntable...

...and some vintage equipment,...

...including a collection of cabooses from various lines.

Just after that, we see the branch trackage at Nesquehoning junction veering west.

The old abandoned tower still stands...

...and then we cross over to the east side of the Lehigh River.
A hiking / biking rail parallels us to the right for the entire route.
