CNJ Wilkes-Barre Station photos - 4/12/2010 - Wilkes-Barre, PA
The CNJ Wilkes-Barre station still remains, but devoid of tracks since the 1980's,
except for a few track sections associated with the cars still on the site.
Much of the CNJ ROW ran along what is now Wilkes-Barre Blvd, which didn't even exist until it was built quite a while after
hurricane Agnes in 1972. I'm not sure of the exact timeframe, but one source said that virtually all
of the CNJ trackage from here down to Dana Street was gone by the early 1980's.
There have been a few attempts to make it into a visitors' center, among other things, but so far all efforts
have been stalled or put on the back burner. Most of the rail equipment (cars) are still here,
but the passenger car (with the stairs leading to it) was removed and scrapped in 2012.
These photos were taken on April 12, 2010, during a visit a few months before moving here.
