Middletown, NY - Summer, 2011 - M&NJ photos

These were all taken on July 7, 2011, in Middletown, New York.

This set was taken around the Middletown & New Jersey Railway station at 140 East Main Street.
The station was originally built in 1892, and the line (which once extended to Unionville, NY)
is now partially abandoned (the southernmost 7 miles), but the remainder
(to Slate Hill) is either in use or undergoing rehabilitation.
The line was acquired by Regional Rail, LLC (of Kennett Square, PA) in 2009.

Here we see a Norfolk Southern hi-railer dump truck just across from the station.

The second track here has been torn up, with the "yard limit" sign lying on the ground.

An old telegraph pole still stands between the station and the shop.

To the south, quite a bit of work has been done on the tracks and over the bridge.
Some new switches and sidings have been installed,
and a good supply of new ties await their implementation.
