New York City Transit - 1977 - 1979

The first 6 shots were taken in 1977, and the rest in the summer of 1979,
at various locations in NYC along the transit system.

In a car on the BMT "L" Canarsie Line at the start of the line (14th St./8th Ave.) - Summer 1977

Myrtle Avenue El at Forest Avenue station (taken from adjacent park), July 16, 1977.

The service on the Jamaica Avenue El was cut back from 168th Street to Queens Blvd on 9/11/77,
and then to 121 Street on 4/15/85, at which time the Queens Blvd and Metropolitan Ave stations closed.
The 121 St station is still part of the existing line now.
In the summer of 1979, the structure itself ended at Sutphin Blvd, before further demolition.
The following shots show that terminus, as well as a few of the support posts that remained
farther out while traffic lights were still attached to them.

Near the end of the existing El line which was cut back to Sutphin Blvd.

A major side thoroughfare in that area.

Remaining support posts a bit further out on the line to Jamaica.

Broadway-Nassau-Fulton Street station, Manhattan.

Under the El, Coney Island Avenue and Brighton Beach Avenue. The Brighton Beach station
is immediately behind us, and the stores are on the east side of Coney Island Avenue.

Produce Market near the LIRR, I believe this is in Jamaica (summer 1979).

Broadway East New York area, the second shot shows some of the old Fulton St. El structure.

Roosevelt Island tramway, just west of the Queensboro Bridge (summer, 1979).
