Tweetsie Railroad - Summer, 2005

The Tweetsie Railroad is primarily an theme park, but operates regular tourist steam trains
on a 3 mile narrow gauge loop in the park. Operations began in 1957, and Engine #12 is the only
surviving steam engine from the original ET&WNC narrow gauge line between Johnson City, TN
and Boone, NC. The Boone end of that line ceased operations in 1940, and the remainder of the
narrow gauge line (Johnson City - Cranberry, NC) abandoned in 1950.
The park is just a few miles east of Boone, North Carolina on route 321 in Blowing Rock.
Engine #12 is a 1917 Baldwin 4-6-0, their other engine (#190) is an ex-military Baldwin
2-8-2 built in 1943 which ran on the White Pass & Yukon.
You can catch a glimpse of #190 in the shop in the next to last picture.
